Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing a polymethacrylimide foam material having significantly improved thermodynamic properties, characterized in that 0.05% by weight is added to a polymerization reaction for a polymethacrylimide foam material. - 5 wt% of a free-radically polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated compound having at least two double bonds and 1 wt% to 5 wt% of magnesium oxide. The invention also relates to a polymethacrylimide foam material with a thermal deformation resistance >250° C. and the use of a polymethacrylimide foam material for the preparation of a sandwich component.
